Summer 2012

Dear Families,
Some of the best memories I had as a child were the family camping trips that we enjoyed together. The events that those summer months brought are crystal clear in my mind not foggy like the endless school days I endured. Being out playing in the sunshine, swimming in the lake, sharing stories and laughter around a blazing fire are some of my most treasured childhood memories. Sometimes the moments that we share together out under the canopy of stars can be “mountain top” experiences. By this I mean a time to refresh and stand in awe of God’s glory and to respond to that beauty.“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” Romans 1:20 When I was twelve years old I had a moment such as this at a camp in Eastern Washington that I will never forget. It was a time when I rededicated my life to Christ and it set me on the path to love, honor and obey Him during my teen years and beyond. Finding time to share your favorite verse, sing a church song, tell a Bible story or sharing your own testimony around the campfire with your kids are all great ways to focus on God during the summer months. Enjoy celebrating God’s creation this summer and find some moments to give Him the praise that He so deserves by joyfully marveling in the gifts of this world that He has lavished on us!

Spring Splatter Retreat Update
What happens when 75 second through fifth graders, 24 adult and youth helpers journey on a bus to a beautiful lakeside camp for 24 hours of adventure? Great things happen. The warm sunshine smiled on us as we fellowshipped together. We listened to three powerful messages about God’s plan for our lives and how we can live for Him. Nine children responded to God’s call and stepped out in faith to give their hearts to Him. Many other students committed to ask God for help with certain issues that they are struggling with. We played high impact, exuberant games filled with lots of energy and team spirit. The children basked in the sun enjoying canoeing, paddle boats, mini golf, carpet ball, a giant tire swing, climbing wall and paint ball. It is always a wonderful experience seeing the children outside the walls of the church, to hear their laugher and celebrate God’s glorious creation together. Through this kind of experience the children produce bonds of friendships that last for many years to come. Overheard at camp, “Who planned all this? This is the best ever.” A huge THANKS to the volunteers that made it all possible.
