"The Holiness of God"

"Connecting With God In Times Of Crisis" - Part 10

"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory."  Isaiah 6:3

"Be holy, because I am holy."  Leviticus 11:44
Holy = separate, to cut apart (from the original Greek)

1.  ACKNOWLEDGE God's holiness.  (Isaiah 6:1-8)

God is Pure and Transcendent

Translation notes on verse 5:  "Woe is me!"  Isaiah was undone.  He pronounced a curse on himself.

"LORD" in all caps, signifies Yahweh, the name of God.
"Lord" depicts sovereign one, the title of God.

The Holy God is also a God of grace!

Allowing God's holiness to touch our lives:

  1. What ways do you need to be refined by the fire of God's holiness?

  2. What aspect of God's holiness causes you to worship Him more fully?

Pattern:  Isaiah, Peta, Uzzah

  • God appears in His glory

  • Man recognizes his unworthiness

  • God cleanses man's sin

  • God commissions man

Four vitally important Biblical concepts:

  • Holiness

  • Sin

  • Justice

  • Grace

2. APPROPRIATE God's holiness.  (Romans 5:1-2)

Justification results in:

  1. PEACE WITH GOD.  (Philippians 4:6-8)

  2. ACCESS INTO HIS PRESENCE (Hebrews 4:14-16)

3.  ACHIEVE God's holiness.  (Romans 12:1-2; 1 Peter 1:14-16)

1 Peter 1:16  "Be holy, because I am holy."
Romans 12:1  "...do not be conformed..."
Romans 12:2  "...be transformed..."

Sanctification involves:

  1. Non-conformity with the WORLD (ie: having a different standard)

  2. Personal transformation by the RENEWING of the mind.  (Master the basics of the Christian life.)

  3. The ultimate goal is becoming like JESUS CHRIST.

THE SPIRIT OF GOD
USES THE WORD OF GOD
TO MAKE THE CHILD OF GOD
MORE LIKE THE SON OF GOD
